Inspired by a true story, Prison Cell 211 is based on the Spanish novel Celda 211 by Francisco Pérez Gandul, which was adapted into the multi-award-winning 2009 film Cell 211 starring Luis Tosar.

The series Prison Cell 211 moves the setting from Spain to Mexico and changes the protagonist from a prison guard to a human rights lawyer, played by Diego Calva (Midnight Family, The Secret of the River, Narcos: Mexico).

What begins as an uneventful, routine day for the lawyer turns into an utter nightmare when a riot erupts inside the border-town prison where he’s seeing a client. Now trapped inside the prison, he must pose as an inmate, get actual inmates to believe that he’s one of them, and navigate his way through the violence and intrigue in order to survive.

Prison Cell 211, a Netflix Series, premieres globally on Wednesday, February 5, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)

The series features Noé Hernández (Pedro Páramo, La Reina del Sur, Narcos: Mexico) and Gerardo Taracena (Almost Paradise, Harina, Narcos: Mexico), amongst others.
