Based on BOOM! Studios’ “Butterfly” graphic novel series created by Arash Amel, the Butterfly TV series is a character-driven spy thriller that explores complex family dynamics within the treacherous world of global espionage.

Butterfly stars Daniel Dae Kim (Avatar: The Last Airbender, Lost, Hawaii Five-O), who also serves as executive producer. The cast also includes Reina Hardesty (Brockmire, StartUp), Piper Perabo (Yellowstone, Billions), and Louis Landau (Rivals, The Serpent Queen).

The story centers on David Jung (Kim), an enigmatic and highly unpredictable former US intelligence operative living in South Korea. His life gets blown to bits when the consequences of an impossible decision from his past come back to haunt him, and he finds himself pursued by Rebecca (Hardesty), a deadly, sociopathic young agent assigned to kill him, and Caddis, the sinister spy organization for which she works.

Butterfly, an Amazon Original Series, premieres globally as a six-episode binge on Wednesday, August 13, exclusively on Prime Video.

The recurring cast includes Kim Ji-hoon (Death’s Game), Park Hae-soo (Squid Game), Kim Tae-hee (Iris), Charles Parnell (The Mandalorian), Sean Dulake (The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call), and Nayoon Kim, with Sung Dong-il (Curtain Call) and Lee Il-hwa (No Gain No Love) in guest roles.

Ken Woodruff (The Mentalist, Gotham) serves as showrunner and co-creator for the adaptation alongside acclaimed novelist Steph Cha, both of whom serves as executive producers alongside Daniel Dae Kim and John Cheng for 3AD; Stephen Christy and Ross Richie for BOOM! Studios; and Arash Amel for The Amel Company. Adam Yoelin serves as co-executive producer for BOOM! Studios. Kim’s production company, 3AD, developed the series under their first-look deal with Amazon MGM Studios. Kitao Sakurai (Twisted Metal) directed the first two episodes of the series.
