Topic announced today its acquisition of the exclusive US and Canada streaming rights to the true-crime docuseries The Box.
The Box is the latest addition to the roster of scripted drama and factual crime stories and suspense thrillers from around the world on North American streaming service Topic.
The three-part docuseries follows Police Detective Chris Loudon and his mission to expose the truth behind one of America’s worst serial killers. After discovering a box of evidence seized decades ago, but whose contents had been left untouched, Loudon finds dozens of photos of young women — setting him on a course in which he unravels a terrifying murder mystery created by a monster hiding in plain sight in small-town America, where women’s reports of sexual assault were all too frequently dismissed throughout the 1970s.
The deal for The Box was negotiated by Jennifer Liang, Vice President Programming Strategy, Acquisitions & Sales at Topic, and Jennifer Askin, Senior Vice President, North America at All3Media International.
Said Jennifer Liang:
“Topic subscribers know that true crime stories are often more unbelievable than anything that is scripted. The Box’ is a harrowing account of how one of this country’s most dangerous serial killers lived out in the open for years. This series fits perfectly into our collection of fascinating, can’t-stop-watching true crime stories.”
And Jennifer Askin commented:
“We are thrilled to have Topic on board as the North American partner for The Box. This captivatingly told, forensically researched true crime series from Top Hat Productions’ reveals the truth behind one of America’s worst serial killers, offering utterly compelling viewing for Topic’s audiences.”
A project of Top Hat Productions for Paramount+ UK in association with All3Media International and Night Train Media, The Box is executive produced by Darren Kemp, produced by Sarah Foudy, and directed by Robin Dashwood.
Topic will launch The Box in summer 2023 (date tba). Stay tuned for updates.
