Netflix has announced the global premiere date for The Chosen One, a new US-Mexico series about good vs evil and the Second Coming.
Based on the famous “American Jesus” graphic novel trilogy created by writer Mark Millar (Jupiter’s Legacy) and artist Peter Gross (Lucifer), The Chosen One (El Elegido) tells the story of Jodie, a twelve-year-old boy from Santa Rosalía in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur.
After surviving a freak accident, Jodie discovers that he now has Jesus-like powers: he can turn water into wine, make the crippled walk, and even raise the dead. The Evangelical and the Yaquí leaders in town try to get him to use his powers to save mankind, but all Jodie wants to do is impress the girl he likes and stand up to his bullies. As Jodie struggles and eventually comes to terms with his destiny, everything gets thrown for a loop when he discovers the truth around his identity.
The cast includes Bobby Luhnow, Dianna Agron (Clock), Lilith Curiel, Juanito Anguamea, Jorge Javier Arballo, Alberto Pérez-Jacome, Patricio Serna Meza, Carlos Bardem (El Señor de los Cielos), Alfonso Dosal (Narcos: Mexico), Sofía Sisniega (Club de Cuervos), Eileen Yáñez (Capadocia), and Tenoch Huerta (Narcos: Mexico).
The Chosen One premieres globally on Wednesday, August 16, exclusively on on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
A production of Redrum, The Chosen One is directed by Everardo Gout (Joe Pickett), and written by Jorge Dorantes, Kevin Rodriguez, Iturri Sosa, Tina de la Torre, Everardo Gout, and Leopoldo Gout. The executive producers are Stacy Perskie, Stephanie “Tuty” Correa, Everardo Gout, Leopoldo Gout, and Jorge Dorantes.
