Netflix announced today the global premiere date for Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, a new Japanese zombie comedy film.
The new Netflix Film Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead is based on the popular “Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead” manga series by the team of Haro Aso (writer) and Kotaro Takata (illustrator), the creators of the Alice in Borderland graphic novels. The comedy film turns the zombie apocalypse story on its head by reversing the hopeless situation of a city being overrun by the walking dead.
In the film, Akira Tendo (Eiji Akaso, Pending train, Super Rich) is a young man who works at an exploitative company where he suffers endless late hours and never-ending harassment from his boss. This job has sucked the life out of Akira, and he spends his days feeling more dead than alive.
One day the town is overtaken by zombies and the familiar landscape is already devastated. Seeing such destruction, Akira shouts with glee, because he doesn’t have to go to the office anymore. An innately positive guy, Akira devises a brilliant plan to deal with the zombie apocalypse, at least in the short term: He comes up with a bucket list of 100 things he wants to do before he himself becomes a zombie, which includes cleaning his home, camping on his balcony, and traveling with Shizuka (Mai Shiraishi, The Could’ve-Gone-All-the-Way Committee) and Kencho (Shuntaro Yanagi, Alice in Borderland).
Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead premieres globally on Thursday, August 3, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
The cast includes Yui Ichikawa (Special Investigation Nine), Mayo Kawasaki (Butler Saionji’s Great Reasoning), Akari Hayami (Shin Ultraman), Miwako Kakei (Kamen Rider Black Sun), Kurumi Nakata (Alice in Borderland), Doronzu Ishimoto (In This Corner of the World), Mukau Nakamura (Frankenstein in Love), Shota Taniguchi (The Fighter Pilot), Kenta Satoi (The Scales of Justice), and Kazuki Kitamura (Signal).
A production of ROBOT in cooperation with Plus One Entertainment, Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead is directed by Yusuke Ishida (Kantaro: The Sweet Tooth Salaryman) and scripted by Tatsuro Mishima (City Hunter). The Executive Producer for Netflix is Shinichi Takahashi, with Akira Morii (Alice in Borderland) as Producer.
