US-based streaming service MHz Choice has announced its slate of international programs for August 2023, which includes the South African thriller Lioness.
Lioness will be the third series from South Africa to screen on MHz Choice, following the streaming channel’s North American premieres of drama series Waterfront and Grassroots.
Leading the cast of Lioness is Shannon Esra (Do Your Worst, The River, Legacy), a nominee for Best Actress in a Television Drama at the 2022 South African Film and Television Awards, for her portrayal of Samantha “Sam” Hugo, the wife of an investment backer and the mother of their three children.
On one fateful evening, Sam loses practically everything — her children, her lover, and her freedom — when she is framed for fraud committed by her husband before his death.
Eight years later, while trying to reunite with her children, Sam discovers that he is still alive.
Lioness: Season 1 premieres in the US and Canada on Tuesday, August 1, exclusively on MHz Choice and its digital channels, including MHz Choice on Amazon.
The cast includes Evan Hengst (Resident Evil, The Mauritanian), Jazzara Jaslyn (Warrior, Professionals) Joshua Eady (The Kissing Booth), Terrence Ngwila (The Wife), and Ilana Cilliers (Binnelanders), amongst others.
