Public TV station KCTS 9 announced today that it will air the original Three-Body Problem, the hit sci-fi mystery series from China, in parts of the US and Canada.
Seattle-based KCTS 9, the home to PBS in Western Washington and British Columbia, is set to present the blockbuster Chinese science-fiction series, Three-Body Problem, to viewers in its service area on both sides of the US-Canada border.
Based on Cixin Liu’s best-selling, highly-acclaimed science fiction novel The Three-Body Problem — the first Asian novel to win the prestigious Hugo Award for Best Novel — the 30-episode Three-Body Problem is the original TV adaptation. (Netflix is set to launch its American adaptation, one of the most highly-anticipated upcoming series, in January 2024.)
Three-Body Problem begins with a mystery: Scientists across the globe are dying by their own hand. Before their final act, each of them declares, “Physics does not exist.” But why? This and other questions prompt scientists and investigators, including nanomaterials expert Wang Miao (Luyi “Edward” Zhang, New World) and police captain Shi Qiang (Hewei Yu, Three Kingdoms), to learn about earth’s past, future, and potential collision with other civilizations.
Said KCTS 9 President and CEO Rob Dunlop:
“Sci-fi and suspense fans love to dig deep. We’re so excited to give them the opportunity to immerse themselves in the worlds of the original ‘Three-Body Problem.’
“But this show isn’t only for sci-fi fans. This is a show for everyone who loves compelling stories about the issues confronting our planet and people. It is truly World’s Best TV..”
KCTS 9 will begin airing Three-Body Problem on Saturday, September 23, at 9pm PT. Shown in Mandarin with English subtitles, the full series will be available for KCTS 9 Passport members to stream, either online at the KCTS 9 website or with the World’s Best TV app (available for Android and iOS).
