Netflix has set the global premiere date for The Hijacking of Flight 601 (Secuestro al vuelo 601), a new Colombian historical drama thriller series. Check out the trailer.
The Hijacking of Flight 601 is inspired by the real-life hijacking of a Colombian airliner on May 30, 1973, the longest aerial hijacking in Latin American history.
Two armed revolutionaries hijack and threaten to blow up Flight 601 unless the Colombian government releases 50 political prisoners and pays them a hefty ransom in cash. When the political leaders refuse to negotiate, the aggressors start shooting one passenger per hour and force the plane to fly across Latin America. Meanwhile, the captain and two courageous flight attendants try to outwit the hijackers while negotiating with their local officials. Amid the imminent horror, the crew must fight back to bring the hostages back home safely.
The Hijacking of Flight 601 premieres globally on Wednesday, April 10, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
The six-part series stars Mónica Lopera (Killing Eve, Borgia) as Edie, Enrique Carriazo (Big Steps) as Mustafá, Marcela Benjumea (Until Money Do Us Part) as Machola, Carlos Manuel Vesga (A Grito Herido) as Marulanda, Christian Tappan (Griselda) as Capitán Lucena, Ángela Cano (The Queen of Flow) as Bárbara, Johan Rivera (Echo 3) as Lequerica, Ilenia Antonini (The Queen and the Conqueror) as Marisol, Valentín Villafañe (Diary of a Gigolo) as Borja, and Alían Emmanuel Devatac (The Lost Brother) as El Toro Solano.
A production of Miracol Media (To End a War), The Hijacking of Flight 601 is showrun and directed by Camilo Prince (The Final Score) and Pablo González (The Great Heist), and written by Prince, González, Miguel Fajardo, and Verónica Triana. The Executive Producers are Pedro Dávila, Natalia Echeverri, and Oscar Botía.
