Considered by Guinness World Records as the most successful telenovela in history, Yo soy Betty, la Fea (literal translation: I am Betty, the ugly one) aired in 180 countries, was dubbed into 15 languages, and was adapted in up to 28 territories, including India, South Africa, and the US — the latter of which gave us the hit ABC comedy-drama series Ugly Betty.

In Yo soy Betty, la Fea, Beatriz “Betty” Pinzón Solano (Ana María Orozco, Cochina Envidia), a rather unsophisticated, book-smart woman, worked at clothing manufacturing company Ecomoda, where she fell in love with the company’s new president, the incompetent playboy Armando Mendoza (Jorge Enrique Abello, Last One Laughing Colombia-LOL CO).

Betty La Fea, The Story Continues follows the iconic Betty 20 years after the conclusion of the original series. While a wiser, empowered Betty works hard to rebuild her relationship with her teen daughter, her relationship with Armando begins to deteriorate, making her question if she made the right decision 20 years ago.

The story picks up two years after Betty left Ecomoda (in the first sequel, Ecomoda). Although Betty and Armando are still married, they are on the brink of divorce, and Betty is desperately trying to connect with their adolescent daughter, Mila, while wondering if she’s happy with her chosen path.

Meanwhile, Roberto, Armando’s father and Ecomoda’s founder, has passed, and his dying wish is for Betty to return to the company. Betty will have to rebuild her relationship with her daughter, assume control of Ecomoda as president, and decide whether to reconcile with Armando, who is determined to regain her affection. In returning to Ecomoda, Betty will be reunited with the mischievous gossips of the “Cuartel de las Feas,” including the vain and arrogant Hugo Lombardi (Julián Arango, Narcos: Mexico) and seductive gold digger Patricia “La Peliteñida” (Lorna Cepeda, Until Money Do Us Part), each of whom has gone through their own changes and struggles during the past 20 years.

Betty La Fea, The Story Continues premieres globally on Friday, July 19, exclusively on Prime Video.

Also reprising their roles for the new series are Natalia Ramírez (Dudes) as Marcela, Luces Velásquez (The Scent of Passion) as Bertha, Marcela Posada (Enfermeras) as Sandra, Mario Duarte (A Grito Herido) as Nicolás, Julio Cesar Herrera (An Unremarkable Christmas) as Freddy, Ricardo Vélez (MalaYerba) as Mario, Alberto León Jaramillo (Rigo) as Saúl, and Estefanía Gómez (The Clone) as Aura María.

Joining the cast are Carlos “Pity” Camacho (Her Mother’s Killer), Rodrigo Candamil (A grito herido), Juanita Molina (The Queen of Flow), Zharick León (Miss Adrenaline: A Tale of Twins), Jerónimo Cantillo (Rebelde), Sebastián Osorio (The Snitch Cartel: Origins), and Valentina Lagarejo (Cara sucia).
