Netflix released today the official trailer for Drawing Closer, a new tearjerker of a romantic drama from Japan. Check it out.
Yup, I got all misty-eyed while watching the trailer for Drawing Closer. Assuming I watch the movie, I predict a seriously ugly cry will accompany it.
Based on Aoi Morita’s best-selling novel Yomei Ichinen to Senkoku Sareta Boku ga, Yomei Hantoshi no Kimi to Deatta Hanashi, which has been lauded on social media as a “moving and tear-jerking” love story, Drawing Closer follows two individuals who, while living on borrowed time, strive to leave meaningful imprints of their existence.
Diagnosed with a terminal heart disease, Akito (Ren Nagase, The Last Man: The Blind Profiler) must face the harsh reality of the limited time he has left. Amidst his despair, he meets Haruna (Natsuki Deguchi, The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House), who, despite living with a terminal illness herself, displays an unflinching courage towards death. While Akito conceals his own illness, he grows increasingly intrigued by Haruna and grapples with a poignant question: Can he fall in love with her, knowing that their time together is fleeting?
Drawing Closer, a Netflix Film, premieres globally on Thursday, June 27, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
A production of Nikkatsu and Django Film, the film is directed by Takahiro Miki (My Undead Yokai Girlfriend) from the screenplay by Tomoko Yoshida (Love Like the Falling Petals). The producers are Kei Haruna, Sho Toguchi, and Tatsuya Sakano.
