Paramount+ announced today Let the Canary Sing, a new documentary feature that explore the remarkable life and career of musical artist Cyndi Lauper.

“Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” “Time After Time.” “She Bop.” “True Colors” “I Drove All Night.” Even if you’re not into pop culture and music, you (probably) still know that these are Cyndi Lauper songs.

Soon you can know more about Cyndi Lauper from a new feature-length documentary that explores this renowned and pioneering artist, who has left a remarkable legacy with her art: Let the Canary Sing.

Directed by Emmy® Award-winning documentarian Alison Ellwood (The Go-Go’s, History of the Eagles), Let the Canary Sing chronicles Lauper’s meteoric ascent to stardom and her profound impact on generations through her music, her ever-evolving punk style, her unwavering feminism, and her tireless advocacy.

Said Lauper:

“Over the years I’ve been asked to do a documentary about my life and work, but it never felt like the right time. Until now. When I first met Alison Ellwood, I knew right away I could trust her to tell my story honestly, which was incredibly important to me, and she succeeded in that. I’d like to thank Alison, the producers, and all of the amazing documentary participants who agreed to be interviewed!”

Let the Canary Sing premieres in the US and Canada on Tuesday, June 4, exclusively on Paramount+, followed by the UK, Australia, Latin America, Brazil, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria on Wednesday, June 5.

Produced by Fine Point Films and Sony Music Entertainment in association with Concord Originals, the film made its world premiere at the 2023 Tribeca Festival. The producers are Trevor Birney, Eimhear O’Neill, Andrew Tully, and Alison Ellwood. Lisa Barbaris and Gregory P. Cimino II, Esq. are executive producers.
