Netflix has set the global premiere date for Tokyo Swindlers, a new crime thriller series from Japan. Check out the teaser.
Based on the novel Tokyo Swindlers by Ko Shinjo, the streaming series Tokyo Swindlers centers on a group of real estate scammers who play a high-stakes game of deception.
After Takumi Tsujimoto (Go Ayano, MIU404) meets Harrison Yamanaka (Etsushi Toyokawa, Kingdom II: Far and Away), a master con man, Yamanaka takes Tsujimoto under his wing and mentors him, bringing him into the fold of his notorious group of real estate swindlers as a negotiator. Others in the group are informer Takeshita (Kazuki Kitamura, Hell Dogs), impostor recruiter Reiko (Eiko Koike, My Story Is Long), and legal advisor Goto (Pierre Taki, House of Ninjas).
They’ve been successfully stealing large sums of money by using real estate sales as bait. Now, with real estate prices in Tokyo skyrocketing again, Yamanaka and his crew embark on their biggest con yet: pulling off a 10-billion-yen scam without getting caught.
While the swindlers engage in a clever back-and-forth with land owners and major developers who are desperate to repurpose land, the police are relentlessly pursuing them. Gradually, both Takumi’s past and Harrison’s immoral methods are revealed.
Tokyo Swindlers, a Netflix Series, premieres globally on Thursday, July 25, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
The cast of the seven-episode series also includes Shota Sometani (Seven Orifices), Izumi Matsuoka (Shoplifters), Kaito Yoshimura (Million Yen Women), Satoru Matsuo (No Side Manager), Taro Suruga (Hard Days), Makita Sports (Golden Kamuy), Koji Yamamoto (Extremely Inappropriate!), Elaiza Ikeda (Followers), and Lily Franky (The Parades).
