The third season of the multi-award-winning, hit Argentine dark comedy series El Encargado (aka The One in Charge) is set for its premiere across the globe, including in the US.
El Encargado, a 2023 International Emmy® Awards nominee for Best Comedy, follows Eliseo (Guillermo Francella, Nada, The Clan), the building manager of a luxury high-rise condo building. He’s a bit of an odd fellow, but mostly he’s a total schemer, one who makes himself comfy in residents’ apartments, demands kickbacks from repairmen, and the like.
In Season 1, Eliseo resorts to all manner of manipulating, spying, and abusing his power to keep his job and his rooftop home when he learns that both are in jeopardy. Zambrano (Gabriel Goity, Rest in Peace), the president of the condo association that employs him, is proposing tearing down Eliseo’s apartment to build a rooftop pool, which Eliseo’s salary would help pay for. So, Eliseo does what needs must to prevent losing everything.
Season 2 finds Eliseo still working, living, and scheming at the building, only now he has installed hidden cameras in different parts of the building to aid him in spying on residents. But he starts to feel threatened after Lucila Morris (Maria Abadi, La Reina del Sur), an executive at a charity, moves in and offers to clean up the building’s accounts and replace the role of the association president, i.e. Zambrano, with a homeowner council. If this happens, she could find out about Eliseo’s pay-to-play deals with contractors, suppliers, etc., and lose everything for good this time. Then Eliseo discovers Zambrano’s own shady businesses, and despite despising each other, the two end up partnering up to take Lucila down.
In the upcoming Season 3, Eliseo has a spark of an idea while attending the Inter-American Building Managers Convention in Brazil: to set up his own company. He talks the associates into hiring him and the other supers into joining his venture. But a visitor from his past and a governmental inspection jeopardize Eliseo’s plans. He must now face his greatest adversary yet: the Argentine National State.
El Encargado: Season 3 premieres this Friday, July 19, in the US on Hulu, in Latin America on Star+, and in Europe on Disney+.
