Paramount+ announced today the premiere date for Queen Woo, a new action period drama from South Korea.
Set during the Goguryeo era of imperial rule in Korea, Queen Woo stars Jeon Jong-seo (Ballerina, Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area, Bargain) as the titular character.
King Go Nam-moo (Ji Chang-wook, Gangnam B-Side) has died without an heir to inherit his throne. Once his death is announced, the five tribes across the land will battle fiercely for the throne, and Queen Woo will experience a fate similar to that of her late husband.
So, to establish a new king, protect her family, and ensure the survival of her people, Queen Woo must marry one of the king’s power-hungry brothers within the next 24 hours. If and when she does, she will be the first woman in history to become queen twice.
Queen Woo, a Paramount+ Original Korean Series, premieres Monday, December 23, in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, Latin America, Brazil, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and France, exclusively on Paramount+.
Costars in the eight-episode drama include Kim Mu-yeol (Sweet Home), Jeong Yu-mi (Celebrity), Lee Soo-hyuk (Tomorrow), and Park Ji-hwan (Seoul Busters), amongst others. The series is directed by Jung Se-kyo (Oh! My Gran) and written by Lee Byoung-hak (The Royal Tailor).
A production of CJ ENM Studios, Andmarq, and Compass Pictures, Queen Woo is executive produced by Julie Choi, Ha Yong-soo, Ken Oh, John Yoo, Kwon Oh-hyun, and Son Eun-ju. The series was developed by TVING and Paramount+, and is currently available on TVING in South Korea. Paramount Global Content Distribution handles the show’s licensing outside of Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.
