If the name of the movie sounds a tad familiar, it’s because Bullet Train Explosion is a reboot of the original 1975 film The Bullet Train, which inspired the Hollywood blockbuster Speed.

Starring Tsuyoshi Kusanagi (Specialist, A Swinging Single), the suspense-filled, panic-inducing new film centers on the struggles of the individuals racing against the clock and working under extreme conditions to save the lives of the passengers aboard a bullet train — one that has a bomb strapped to it by a group whose aim is to extort money from Japan’s government.

Bullet Train Explosion, a Netflix Film, premieres globally on Wednesday, April 23, exclusively on Netflix. (The movie’s page is here, but you can’t set a reminder for it yet.)

The producers received special cooperation from the East Japan Railway Company, which allowed the use of real bullet trains and railway facilities for the film.

A production of Episcope, the film is directed by Shinji Higuchi (Shin Ultraman, Shin Godzilla), written by Kazuhiro Nakagawa (Ultraman Z) and Norichika Oba (Runway), and produced by Kota Ishizuka (The Hound of the Baskervilles: Sherlock the Movie).
