There have been more television series set in the world of ballet than I realized until I started adding them up. A few of the more recent ones are L’Opéra from France, Navillera from South Korea, and Tiny Pretty Things from the US.

Étoile is another American production, this one created, written, and directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, the team behind The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Bunheads.

Set in New York City and Paris, Étoile follows the dancers and artistic staff of two world-renowned ballet companies, as they embark on an ambitious gambit to save their storied institutions by swapping their most talented stars.

The series stars Primetime Emmy® Award winner Luke Kirby (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Gossip Girl, Dr. Death), Cannes Film Festival winner Charlotte Gainsbourg (Antichrist, The Pale Blue Eye, Nymphomaniac), and International Emmy® Award winner Lou de Laâge (The Mad Women’s Ball, The Innocents, Black Box).

Also featuring in the series are Gideon Glick (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Maestro), David Alvarez (West Side Story, American Rust), Ivan du Pontavice (Rupture, The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself), Taïs Vinolo (The Show Must Go On), David Haig (Cobra, Killing Eve), and Simon Callow (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Outlander), with Yanic Truesdale (Gilmore Girls) as recurring guest.

A production of Amazon MGM Studios, Étoile is executive produced by Amy Sherman-Palladino, Daniel Palladino, and Dhana Rivera Gilbert. Scott Ellis serves as co-executive producer.
