In the Mud, a spin-off of the hit series El Marginal, centers on Gladys Guerra “la Borges” (Ana Garibaldi, El Marginal, The Accused), the wife of criminal Mario Borges (Claudio Rissi in the original series). While she and her fellow prisoners are being taken to the maximum-security La Quebrada prison, they experience — and survive — a critical situation that will bond them forever.

Newcomers to the prison world, these women, known as “Las embarradas” (literal translation: “the muddy ones”), are now deprived of their liberty and immersed in the new reality of 24/7 confinement. They will have to learn quickly about the prison system at La Quebrada and use whatever “weapons” they brought from their former lives to fight against all manner of adversity here — from the hostile environment and the abuse of power, to the control exerted by the different prisoner “tribes” and the misfortune of being their target.

With their previous life goals now replaced by just one — survive each day — they face the challenges of finding their own space, fighting for rights and benefits, and resisting the overpowering influence of the tribes, all while trying to maintain their connections with the outside world. Contact with their family and loved ones, along with the desire to settle unresolved matters, are the only things that fuel the hope of regaining their lost freedom.

Over time, Gladys and the others transform, discovering their own strengths and weaknesses as they build their place within the universe of La Quebrada.

In the Mud, a Netflix Series, premieres globally on Thursday, August 14, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)

Created by Sebastián Ortega (El Marginal), the series costars Valentina Zenere (Elite, Cable Girls), Rita Cortese (The Best Heart Attack of My Life, The Bronze Garden), Lorena Vega (Envious, (Un)lucky Sisters), Carolina Ramírez (The Queen of Flow, Contra El Tiempo), Ana Rujas (The Vineyard, Paquita Salas), and Marcelo Subiotto (The Eternaut, Community Squad).
