MHz Choice has announced the premiere date for Donkerbos, a noir mystery thriller from South Africa.

Having premiered as part of Berlinale Series Market Selects in 2023, the critically-acclaimed Donkerbos was a Best TV Drama nominee at the 2023 South African Film & Television Awards, and that event’s winner for Best Achievement in Directing (picked up by Nico Scheepers, who also wrote the show). Now the bilingual (Afrikaans and English), English-subtitled limited series is headed to North America.
Donkerbos follows Fanie van Wyk (Erica Wessels, Unseen, Dwaalster), an ostracized detective who is called in to investigate when the bodies of six children are found in the backwater forests of Donkerbos, Limpopo. Over the course of eight episodes, Fanie is forced to reckon with her dark past, her family, and a distrustful community to catch the killer before another child is taken.
Donkerbos premieres in the US and Canada on Tuesday, October 7, exclusively on MHz Choice and its digital channels, including MHz Choice on Prime Video Channels.
The cast also includes Wilhelm van der Walt (Ekstra Medium), Edwin van der Walt (Waterfront), and Nicole Holm (Straat), amongst others.
