Netflix has announced the premiere date for Rulers of Fortune, a new crime drama series from Brazil.
Leading the cast of Rulers of Fortune are André Lamoglia (Elite), Chico Diaz (All the Flowers), Giullia Buscaccio (Once We Were Six), Juliana Paes (Desperate Lies), Mel Maia (A Vampire in the Family), and Xamã (The Park Maniac).
The cast also features Adriano Garib (Good Morning, Verônica), Bruno Mazzeo (Cilada), Dandara Mariana (The Path), Igor Fernandez (A Life Worth Living), Pedro Lamin (New Bandits), Ruan Aguiar (A Life Worth Living), Stepan Nercessian (Children of the Church Steps), and Tuca Andrada (End of the Line).
In Rulers of Fortune, Rio’s underground crime syndicate is thrown into turmoil by three concurrent events: the imminent legalization of gambling, the interest of a foreign criminal organization in the local market, and the rapid rise of Profeta, a new contender for the city’s throne.
With ambition, betrayal, and family feuds intersecting amidst the criminal enterprises in Brazil’s second most populous city, antagonists abound, including:
Profeta vs. Búfalo
Profeta (André Lamoglia), raised in Campos dos Goytacazes, wants to prove to his father and everyone else that he was born to lead. But Búfalo (Xamã), an ex-MMA fighter, takes over the family business after marrying the Guerra family’s heiress, Suzana (Giullia Buscaccio). However, there is only one crown, and the two unlikely rivals are willing to do whatever it takes to claim it — and to earn the respect of the old guard.
Mirna Guerra vs. Suzana Guerra
These two are sisters, rivals, and heiresses to the Guerra empire. Like her father, Mirna (Mel Maia) is articulate and business-minded, whereas the ambitious and cunning Suzana (Giullia Buscaccio) is willing to destroy her own flesh and blood, if necessary, to come out on top.
Galego Fernandez vs. Leila Fernandez
Galego (Chico Diaz), the head of the old guard, is used to giving orders and calling the shots. Leila (Juliana Paes) is the wife who, albeit in her husband’s shadow, pulls the strings like a queen. When rivalries arise within the family, betrayal can feel worse than murder.
Rulers of Fortune, a Netflix Series, premieres globally on Wednesday, October 29, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
The series launches Netflix Brazil’s slate of “mafia productions,” bringing an authentic Rio de Janeiro flavor to the screen along with gripping crime stories. Produced by Paranoïd, it was created by Heitor Dhalia (Criminal Code), Bernardo Barcellos, who also wrote the script, and Bruno Passeri. The directors are Heitor Dhalia, Rafael Miranda Fejes, and Matias Mariani.
