Prison dramas can be some of the most binge-worthy series, with their gripping plotlines and love-to-hate-them characters. To wit: Wentworth from Australia and Locked Up (aka Vis a vis) from Spain.

Soon, we’ll have Tremembé, which looks to offer the same, but with a twist: The main characters are based on actual people, and the show blends fiction with real stories of crimes that shocked the nation, while also reflecting on justice, redemption, and the role of human relationships in extreme conditions.

The series is set within the confines of the Tremembé Penitentiary Complex, a notorious prison in São Paulo that houses some of the country’s most infamous criminals, including Suzane von Richthofen (Marina Ruy Barbosa, God Save the King), Elize Matsunaga (Carol Garcia, #NoFilter), Roger Abdelmassih (Anselmo Vasconcelos, Silence of the Rain), Alexandre Nardoni (Lucas Oradovschi, Never Give Up), and brothers Christian (Kelner Macêdo, Outlaw) and Daniel Cravinhos (Felipe Simas, Dark Days).

Across its five episodes, viewers will get an inside look into the daily lives of the inmates, as storylines reveal the complex dynamics of their coexistence within the prison system — from intrigues and unlikely alliances to love triangles and more.

Tremembé, an Amazon Original Series, premieres globally on Friday, October 31, exclusively on Prime Video.

A production of Paranoid for Amazon MGM Studios, the series is based on the nonfiction book Tremembé and the biographies of certain criminals by journalist and author Ullisses Campbell, who also co-wrote the series. The directors are Daniel Lieff (One Against All) and Vera Egito (Vultures).
