This travel docuseries returns with best-selling writer, podcaster, and comedian Baratunde Thurston (How to be Black) traveling across the US to uncover more amazing stories about how we work, play, and interact with the outdoors. In a country as diverse as America, Baratunde is on a mission to see how culture, history, and the land itself are shaping what we do when we step through our front doors to embrace an outdoor way of life. Based on The Changeling, the acclaimed best-selling novel by Victor LaValle, this fantasy thriller — a fairy tale for grown-ups — is a horror story, a parenthood fable, and a perilous odyssey through a New York City you didn’t know existed. It follows a father and husband (Academy Award® nominee LaKeith Stanfield, Atlanta, Judas and the Black Messiah, Sorry to Bother You) as he searches through a magical world for his abducted son and missing wife.

A Time Called You (South Korea)

Donyale Luna: Supermodel (US)
This feature-length documentary chronicles the remarkable life and career of Donyale Luna, the first Black model to grace the cover of both Harper’s Bazaar (1965) and Vogue (1966). Breaking barriers in the fashion industry, challenging the prevailing ideals of beauty, and influencing culture in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Luna remains largely unknown despite her stunning body of work and her collaborations with some of the foremost fashion photographers of the 20th century.

The Other Black Girl (US)
Based on The Other Black Girl, Zakiya Dalila Harris’s New York Times best-selling novel, this psychological thriller follows Nella (Sinclair Daniel, Bull, Madam Secretary), a young Black woman working as an editorial assistant at a White NYC publishing firm. From getting coffee and pain relievers, to making copies and handling whatever her bosses want, Nella is often marginalized, and she’s over it and tired of being the only Black girl at the company.
So how thrilled is Nella when she is introduced to new employee Hazel (Ashleigh Murray, Riverdale, Katy Keene), another Black girl. Things start off well, and the bonding and girl empowerment are great — until odd stuff starts to happen and paranoia starts to set in for Nella. Is she just imagining being watched and followed, or is someone surreptitiously keeping tabs on her? As the weirdness continues, and as Hazel’s star begins to rise, Nella discovers something sinister is going on at the company…

A Million Miles Away (Mexico-US)
This biopic drama is based on the book Reaching for the Stars: The Inspiring Story of a Migrant Farmworker Turned Astronaut by José Hernández, whose life inspired this film. It follows José (Michael Peña, American Hustle) and his devoted family of proud migrant farm workers on a decades-long journey — from a rural village in Michoacán, Mexico, to the fields of the San Joaquin Valley, to more than 200 miles above the Earth in the International Space Station. With the unwavering support of his hard-working parents, relatives, and teachers, José’s unrelenting drive and determination culminates in the opportunity to achieve his seemingly impossible goal.

Once Upon a Crime (Japan)
Based on the novel Akazukin, Tabi no Tochu de Shitai to Deau by Aito Aoyagi, this comedy mystery movie follows Little Red Riding Hood (Kanna Hashimoto, Re/Member, The Violence Action), who meets the downtrodden and unkempt Cinderella (Yûko Araki, Roppongi Class, Code Blue) while on her journey through the woods. Thanks to a witch, their clothes are magically transformed into fancy gowns and the ladies head off to a fancy ball at the castle in a pumpkin carriage. Except while en route, the carriage hits and runs over a man, killing him — and the two decide to hide the dead body before continuing on their way.
Just as Cinderella and the prince (Takanori Iwata, Promise Cinderella, Sherlock) fall in love, the corpse is discovered and the ball is canceled. Faced with a desperate situation, the girls meet a series of quirky characters as they work to uncover the real killer, all while Little Red Riding Hood boldly uses her natural deductive skills to tackle the case.

Thursday’s Widows (Mexico)
Based on the novel Thursday Night Widows by Claudia Piñeiro, this thriller sees Teresa (Irene Azuela, Monarca) come home to find her husband, Tano (Omar Chaparro, Blackout), and two of his friends dead. The event shocks the other residents of the luxurious Altos de la Cascada estate, who are quick to call it an accident.
