That Resident Alien is getting a fourth season is the best news I’ve had so far this week. (That it’s moving to USA Network from SYFY affects me not one bit.) I was a latecomer to the series, but as soon as I streamed the series opener, I was utterly and completely hooked.

Based on the “Resident Alien” comics from Dark Horse, Resident Alien stars the über-talented Alan Tudyk (Doom Patrol, Suburgatory, Firefly) as an alien who, on a secret mission to kill all humans, crash-lands in the town of Patience, Colorado. He assumes human form by killing and taking over the body of town doctor Harry Vanderspeigle, learns how to act human by watching episodes of Law & Order, and gradually develops human emotions through his interactions with the quirky locals. One of the more reasonable, level-headed ones is Asta (Sara Tomko, Sneaky Pete, Once Upon a Time), a Native American and the assistant to both the now-dead and the alien-as-human Harry, who learns his true identity.

But Harry isn’t the only alien in these parts. In Season 3, he agrees to work with General McCallister (Linda Hamilton, “Terminator” franchise) to rid the Earth of the Grey aliens, a task made more difficult when he discovers that the Grey Hybrid Joseph (Enver Gjokaj, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) has taken a job as the town’s new Deputy. Harry also struggles to balance business and his personal life when he falls in love for the first time.

The cast includes Corey Reynolds (Murder in the First, All American), Alice Wetterlund (Silicon Valley, People of Earth), Levi Fiehler (Mars, The Fosters), Elizabeth Bowen (Upload, Loudermilk), and Judah Prehn (Launchpad, Mythic Quest), amongst others.

Resident Alien was adapted to television by executive producer Chris Sheridan (Family Guy), who has served as showrunner since the launch of the series and remains at the helm for the upcoming fourth season. Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg of Dark Horse Entertainment, Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank of Amblin TV, Robert Duncan McNeill, and Nastaran Dibai also executive produce.

The series is produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with Amblin TV and Dark Horse Entertainment.

Stay tuned for updates.
