Las Bravas F.C.: Season 2 (Mexico)

This dramedy series, which pays tribute to female soccer and supports values such as teamwork, human relationships, and personal resilience and transformation through sports, returns with a new season that finds the team has changed, but not the hunger for glory.

Following on from the events in the Season 1 finale of this mystery-crime drama, Season 2 finds recovery specialist Gabi Mosely (Shanola Hampton, Shameless) working hard to bring Lacey (Gabrielle Walsh, 9-1-1) home safe and alive from the clutches of her obsessive kidnapper, Sir (Mark-Paul Gosselaar, NYPD Blue). This, on top of her firm’s mission to find individuals neglected by the system.

The Mind Behind Power (Argentina)

This new eight-episode psychological thriller follows Marcos Dorrego (Diego Velazquez, The Kingdom), a psychologist going through a major personal crisis: Widowed two years ago, he has since become a self-destructive and lonely man, with addiction problems and a bad relationship with his daughter, Sofia. Needing to escape this darkness, he decides to stop treating a very important patient, Víctor Noriega (Mike Amigorena, El fin del Amor), who has just become the country’s new president.

As the story progresses, Laurent Gautier, a mysterious patient, appears, showing Marcos that she knows a lot about his personal life and threatening to reveal a secret hidden from his past if he doesn’t get Noriega to resign. This will force Marcos to treat Victor again while he tries to figure out who this woman is and what clandestine organization she belongs to.

Accused: Season 2 (US)

This crime drama anthology series, based on the award-winning BBC series of the same name, returns with a new season and a new cast (except for Michael Chiklis [The Shield], who appeared in Season 1) that includes Nick Cannon (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Justin Chambers (Grey’s Anatomy), Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives), Ken Jeong (Community), William H. Macy (Fargo), Danny Pino (Cold Case), and Taylor Schilling (Orange Is the New Black). Each standalone story is told from the point of view of an ordinary person who is accused of a crime, and, over the course of the hour-long episode, reveals what they did and the circumstances behind their actions.

Outer Banks: Season 4, Part 1 (US)

Following Season 3’s 18-month flash-forward showing Wes Genrette’s (David Jensen, Queen Sugar) proposal for the Pogues to find Blackbeard’s treasure, Season 4 of this teen action-mystery thriller goes back in time to the lead-up of that moment. After finding the gold at El Dorado, the Pogues return to the OBX and commit to having a so-called normal life. They’ve built themselves a new safe haven, officially dubbed “Poguelandia 2.0,” where they live together and run a fairly successful bait, tackle, and charter tour shop.

Based on the nonfiction book When Women Kill by Alia Trabucco Zerán (the English translation of the original Spanish-language book, Las homicidas), this historical drama is based on an actual crime. It follows Mercedes (Elisa Zulueta, La Jauría, Secretos de Familia), a shy paralegal in Santiago, Chile, in 1955. She works for the judge who is presiding over the case of Georgina Silva Jiménez, better known as María Carolina Geel, a popular writer who shot and murdered her lover, Roberto Pumarino, in cold blood and in public at the fashionable Crillón Hotel. After visiting the writer’s apartment, Mercedes finds an oasis of freedom from her own life and begins to fashion herself after María Carolina.

The Last of the Sea Women (US-South Korea)

NCIS: Origins (US)

A new series in the hugely-popular “NCIS” franchise, this crime drama, narrated by Mark Harmon, follows a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell, A Friend of the Family) in 1991, years prior to the events of NCIS. Gibbs starts his career as a newly-minted special agent at the fledgling NCIS Camp Pendleton office, where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid, Six).

Costarring Mariel Molino (Promised Land), Tyla Abercrumbie (The Chi), Diany Rodriguez (The Blacklist), and Caleb Foote (The Kids Are Alright), NCIS: Origins premieres in the US on Monday, October 14, at 9pm ET/PT, on CBS, with streaming available on Paramount+ and its digital channels, including Paramount+ on Prime Channels (where available). Pancho Villa: El Centauro del Norte (Mexico)

This biopic drama tells the story of Doroteo Arango (Jorge A. Jimenez, Narcos: Mexico), whose storied life took him from bandithood to becoming “Pancho Villa,” the feared commander and key figure in the Mexican Revolution. Buried within the story is a man fixated on his own myth, whose efforts to become a larger-than-life figure would shape history but also leave him with many vengeful and powerful enemies.

POV – “Twice Colonized” (US)

This episode of POV, PBS’s long-running program for independent nonfiction films, features Twice Colonized, a documentary about renowned Inuit lawyer Aaju Peter, who has led a lifelong fight for the rights of her people. A member of a historically marginalized and oppressed community, Aaju’s heritage puts her in the unique position of someone who has been “twice colonized” — first by European settlers who arrived in the Arctic, and then by modern-day Canadian policies and institutions. But while launching an effort to establish an Indigenous forum at the EU, Aaju finds herself facing a difficult and deeply personal journey to mend her own wounds after the unexpected passing of her youngest son.

This new unscripted series follows the lives of the young cowboys and cowgirls who work at the Circle Bar Dude Ranch in Montana, where guests escape their fast-paced lives and experience the real American West. This docuseries reveals the rise and fall of Grey’s Anatomy star writer Elisabeth Finch, whose jaw-dropping lies fooled Hollywood for years and became fodder for many of Grey’s high-profile episodes. The story is told by some of her closest contacts, many of them speaking for the first time

As originally reported in the two-part Vanity Fair article “Scene Stealer” (I read it, it’s fascinating), the three-part series reveals how Finch, a master of manipulation, saved her best fiction for her own life story and exploited the empathy of those around her. Her final mark was trauma survivor Jennifer Beyer, who entrusted Finch with her deepest secrets. Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity? (US)

Hosted by Travis Kelce, this new game show offers a fun, new twist on the premise of the popular original “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader” format. Each game will feature an adult contestant who will rely on a classroom full of celebrities from comedy, screen, and sports to help them answer eleven questions on a range of subjects, pulled from elementary curriculum, in an effort to win a $100,000 prize. Rather than compete against the stars, contestants enlist their help and, in some cases, can even “cheat” off of them. Shrinking: Season 2 (US)

Returning for a twelve-episode second season is this comedy-drama series that follows Jimmy (Jason Segel, How I Met Your Mother), a grieving therapist who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives, including his own.

Costars include Harrison Ford (“Star Wars” films), Christa Miller (Cougar Town), Jessica Williams (Love Life), Luke Tennie (CSI: Vegas), Michael Urie (Ugly Better), Lukita Maxwell (Generation), and Ted McGinley (Married… with Children). But pedaling on Tokyo’s deserted streets during the COVID-19 lockdown, delivering boba tea to cloistered condos, he starts to wonder… What was it that Ken Loach said about the Uberization of society? And what does gig-work offer an unemployed young person with student debt?

What We Do in the Shadows: Season 6 (US)

As for the proper vampires, they realize how little they’ve done in half a century when their former roommate reappears after a 50-year nap; not one goal accomplished, not one dream pursued, not one part of the New World conquered (except for their street and part of Ashley Street).

This six-episode live-action, crime-suspense-action series, based on SEGA’s global hit game franchise, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, depicts the lives of fierce yet passionate gangsters and people living in the huge entertainment district of Kamurochō, a fictional district modeled after the violent Shinjuku ward’s Kabukichō, which serves as the backdrop of the gameplay. The series showcases modern Japan and the dramatic stories of these intense characters — such as Kazuma Kiryu (Ryoma Takeuchi, “Kamen Rider” films), a legendary, fearsome, and peerless Yakuza warrior with a strong sense of justice, duty, and humanity — that games in the past have not been able to explore.
