Happy Face (US)

This biopic drama is inspired by the true-life story of Melissa Moore, as well as the critically acclaimed Happy Face podcast from iHeartPodcasts and Moore, and the autobiography Shattered Silence: The Untold Story of a Serial Killer’s Daughter, written by Moore with M. Bridget Cook. At the age of fifteen, Melissa discovered that her beloved father was the prolific serial killer known as Happy Face, a moniker given to him because of the smiley faces he drew on evidence where he bragged about his crimes. As an adult, she has changed her name and guarded her secret while her father has been serving life in prison.

The series jumps off from Moore’s true-life story. Happy Face (Dennis Quaid, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, The Rookie, The Day After Tomorrow) is an incarcerated serial killer and Melissa’s (Annaleigh Ashford, Welcome to Chippendales, Impeachment: American Crime Story, You Can’t Take It with You) father. After decades of no contact, he finally finds a way to force himself back into his daughter’s life. In a race against the clock, Melissa must find out if an innocent man is going to be put to death for a crime her father committed. Throughout, she discovers the impact her father had on his victims’ families and must face a reckoning of her own identity.

Happy Face, a Paramount+ Original, premieres in the US with two episodes on Thursday, March 20, exclusively on Paramount+. New episodes of the eight-episode series will drop weekly on Thursdays through May 1. The series will follow the same premiere schedule in international markets where Paramount+ is available.
