I absolutely adore Love on the Spectrum U.S., along with its predecessor, the Australian series Love on the Spectrum. Both series follow single people on the autism spectrum as they navigate the world of dating and relationships in search of the perfect partner and true love.
Prior to watching the original series, I knew next to nothing about autism. Since watching both, I’ve learned a tad more and gained a better sense of the ways in which neurodiverse individuals can experience symptoms of autism and handle what they may or may not consider challenges of being autistic. From what I’ve seen, many people on the autism spectrum are just like neurotypical people, save for the symptoms: They work and volunteer, engage in hobbies and interests, have close and supportive friends and family, and want to share their love with and be loved by that special someone.
The show is so heartwarming and touching, and the people who participate on it are all champions, in my book. They’re brave to put themselves out there, not just in the dating world but to be followed and filmed, to boot. I want all of them to find the love they long for and deserve.
