Netflix Latinoamerica has released a trailer for the new film Ruita (Noise in the US). It’s in Spanish without English subtitles, but it’s powerful nonetheless. Check it out.

“No estás sola.” “You are not alone.”

From one perspective, the statement is intended as comfort. “We get you. We get your pain,” it says. From another, it is an awful truth. When spoken within the context of the film Noise (Ruido), it is both.

Noise stars Julieta Egurrola (Deep Crimson) as Julia, a mother searching for her daughter, Ger, who has been missing for two years. Julia’s search leads her to a support group, where she shares her story and bonds with other women whose lives similarly have been destroyed by violence — a tiny microcosm in Mexico that represents people worldwide whose lives have been upended by brutality against women.

Written and directed by Natalia Beristain (Monarca, The Mosquito Coast, The Eternal Feminine), Noise won the Cooperación Española Award at the 2022 San Sebastián International Film Festival, and was nominated in the Best Feature category at the 2022 Chicago International Film Festival and the 2022 Morelia International Film Festival.

Costars in the film include Teresa Ruiz (Narcos: Mexico), Erick Israel Consuelo (ZeroZeroZero), Kenya Cuevas, Jimena González, Adrián Vázquez (Natural Born Narco), Mariana Giménez (Sr. Avila), Arturo Beristáin (The Castle of Purity), and Pedro de Tavira (An Unknown Enemy).

Noise, a Netflix Film, premieres globally on Wednesday, January 11, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
