Based on the iconic “Leaphorn & Chee” (later “Leaphorn, Chee & Manuelito”) crime novel series by prolific and best-selling author Tony Hillerman, and set in Navajo Nation in the 1970s, Dark Winds will be back soon with its highly-anticipated second season.

Leading the cast of the six-episode new season are series stars Zahn McClarnon (The Son, Westworld, Fargo) as Lt. Joe Leaphorn of the Tribal Police, Kiowa Gordon (The Red Road, Roswell, New Mexico) as now-former deputy Jim Chee, and Jessica Matten (Tribal, Burden of Truth) as Sgt. Bernadette Manuelito.

In Season 2, Lt. Joe Leaphorn (McClarnon) reunites with Jim Chee (Gordon), his former deputy-turned-private eye, when their separate cases bring them together in pursuit of the same suspect. They find themselves in the high desert of Navajo Country, chasing a killer who’s turned his sights on them to protect a secret that rips open old wounds and challenges Leaphorn’s moral and professional code. With the help of Sgt. Manuelito (Matten) and Valencia County Sheriff Gordo Sena (A Martinez, Longmire, Days of Our Lives), Leaphorn and Chee must thwart their would-be assassin and restore balance, not only to their own lives but also to the reservation that depends on them.

Dark Winds: Season 2 premieres Sunday, July 30, at 9pm ET/PT on AMC, with new episodes airing weekly on Sundays. Episodes will be available earlier for streaming on AMC+; this early access starts Thursday, July 27, with new episodes dropping every Thursday.

Returning cast members include Deanna Allison (Accused, Edge of America) as Emma Leaphorn and Elva Guerra (Reservation Dogs, Rutherford Falls) as Sally Growing Thunder. In addition to A Martinez, other cast additions are Joseph Runningfox (The Politician, Valley of the Gods) as Henry Leaphorn, Lt. Joe Leaphorn’s father, Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Picard, Bosch) as Rosemary Vines, and Nicholas Logan (Dopesick, Creepshow) as Colton Wolf.

Created by Graham Roland (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The Returned, Almost Human, Fringe), the series is showrun by John Wirth (Hell on Wheels, Hap and Leonard). The series is executive produced by Roland, Wirth, McClarnon, Robert Redford, George R.R. Martin, Anne Hillerman, Chris Eyre, Vince Gerardis, and Tina Elmo.

Catch up on Season 1 on AMC+ and its digital channels, including AMC+ on Amazon and the AMC+ YouTube channel, amongst others, where Episode 101 is available to watch for free.
