Netflix has added several titles to its offerings in June 2023, including films and series from Colombia, India, Japan, Mexico, and South Korea. Check ’em out!
The Village (Japan)
Ryûsei Yokohama (The Journalist) stars in this drama feature as Yu Katayama, a young man who is obligated to remain in the remote and once-scenic village of Kamonmura, where he has lived since childhood. What binds him to the place is his mother’s debt, which he is forced to pay off by working in the vast trash disposal site that now dominates the landscape. His is a tragic, hopeless existence — until his childhood friend, Misaki Nakai (Haru Kuroki, The Last 10 Years), returns to Kamonmura from Tokyo, sparking something in Yu that changes him.

Tak Dong Kyung (Park Bo-young, Abyss) is a young woman who is dying. Myul Mang (Seo In-Guk, Café Minamdang) is a young man with the supernatural power to bring the world to an end. He is the titular Doom. Despite not being human and not having the ability to feel emotions, Myul Mang falls in love with Tak Dong Kyung, as she does with him. He cannot save her, but he can spend her remaining days with her, so he does, regardless of the repercussions. Together, they discover the true meaning of life and love.

Making It Up (Mexico)
In this comedy film, friends Ana (Paulina Gaitán, Narcos) and Rita (Regina Blandón, The Search) are flat broke. Enter the unpredictable Alexandra (Ilse Salas, Plaza Catedral), who reappears in the lives with an offer of work as makeup artists at a wedding. But there’s a catch: What Ana and Rita don’t know is that Alex is going through another of her relationship crises and can involve them in each and every one of her entanglements. With no other prospects for money, Ana and Rita have little choice but to accept the gig and everything that comes with Alex, as well as to try to help Alex… without going crazy.
