Netflix has set the global premiere date for Marry My Dead Body, the supernatural crime comedy film from Taiwan. Check out the trailer.
A couple of months ago I wrote about The Ghost Bride, a fantasy murder mystery drama series from Malaysia. Soon we will have Marry My Dead Body, a supernatural crime comedy film from Taiwan about a ghost husband — which will bring the unique Taiwanese tradition of ghost marriage to global audiences, just in time for the annual Ghost Month in Chinese culture.
Marry My Dead Body follows the story of Wu Ming-Han (Greg Han Hsu, Nowhere Man, A Sun), a straight policeman who is both homophobic and afraid of ghosts. While collecting evidence for a case, he inadvertently picks up a red envelope. The thing is, this leads to his being forced to marry Mao Pang-Yu, aka Mao Mao (Austin Lin, Mom, Don’t Do That!, Hospital), a gay man who died under mysterious circumstances.
If Wu Ming-Han has any chance of living a normal life again, he and his ghost husband are going to have to work through their differences and join forces to solve the mystery of who murdered Mao Mao and get justice for him — all while embarking on a ludicrous and laughs-filled journey together.
Marry My Dead Body, a Netflix Film, premieres globally on Thursday, August 10, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
The award-winning film costars include Gingle Wang (Wave Makers) along with Tsai Chen-Nan (A Boy Named Flora A), Wang Man-Chiao (What She Put on the Table), Ma Nien-Hsien (More than Blue), and Chang Tsai-Hsing (The Victims’ Game), amongst others.
