Prime Video has set the global premiere date for Misfortune (Mala fortuna), a new melodrama series from Mexico.

Misfortune (Mala fortuna) on Prime Video

A melodrama full of deceit, ambition, and intrigue, as well as comedic overtones, Misfortune tells the story of Victoria (Macarena Achaga, Luis Miguel: The Series) and Julio (Jorge López, Operación Marea Negra), who have not seen each in more than a decade. That’s when their parents were at the center of a financial scandal that wiped out the fortunes of some of the most powerful families in Latin America.

Both Victoria and Julio have had a hard time financially, surviving social exile, and hardly making ends meet. But endowed with privileged genetics and educated with the best manners, they come to the same conclusion: The only way out of this mess is by changing their identities and looking for a better future. The problem is that both of them have chosen the same target: the Urquiza family. However, neither expected that fate would bring them together again — only this time with Julio posing as “Michi Montefusco” and Victoria as “Marie Claire Lebrun.”

Misfortune premieres globally on August 17/18 (depending on your location), exclusively on Prime Video. (It’s Thursday, August 17, in the US. You can add it to your watchlist now.)

The cast includes Diego Klein (Prisoner No.1), Lisa Owen (Original Sin), Camila Valero (Unstoppable), Adriana Montes de Oca (Casando a mi Ex), Fátima Molina (Who Killed Sara?), Ricardo Polanco (Mariachis), Roberto Quijano (The House of Flowers), and Silvia Pasquel (An Unknown Enemy).

Created by Cristian Conti (Wild District) and María Hinojos (At Midnight), Misfortune is directed by Joe Rendón (Todo por Lucy) and Analine Cal Y Mayor (Book of Love). Written by María Hinojos, Cristian Conti, Camila Ibarra (The Club), Moisés Aisemberg (An Unknown Enemy) and Ilse Apellaniz (Rebelde), it is produced by Cristian Conti, Juliana Flórez (The Head of Joaquín Murrieta), Andrés Calderón (The Head of Joaquín Murrieta), Mirlanda Torres (The Kings of the World), and Tania Zamora (Prayers for the Stolen).
