Netflix has released first-look photos of the new Indonesian romantic period drama Cigarette Girl. Check them out.
Adapted from the novel Cigarette Girl by Ratih Kumala, period drama series Cigarette Girl tells the story of an epic romance set against the tobacco industry in 1960s Indonesia.
Dasiyah (Dian Sastrowardoyo, Kartini: Princess of Java, Crazy Awesome Teachers, Aruna & Her Palate) is a woman ahead of her time, one who is passionate about concocting the perfect formula for clove cigarettes. Her encounter with Soeraja (Ario Bayu, 27 Steps of May, Crossroads: One Two Jaga) leads to a love story marked by historical events that eventually shape the course of their lives.
Decades later, Soeraja’s son, Lebas (Arya Saloka, Story of Kale: When Someone’s in Love, Wedding Proposal), meets Arum (Putri Marino, The Big 4, Possessive), and together they trace the past and uncover buried secrets.
Cigarette Girl premieres globally on Thursday, November 2, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
The cast includes Tissa Biani (Star Syndrome), Ine Febriyanti (The Earth of Mankind), Winky Wiryawan (Dating Queen), Sheila Dara (A Long Way to Come Home), Ibnu Jamil (Ali & Ratu Ratu Queens), Rukman Rosadi (Today We’ll Talk About That Day), Nungki Kusumastuti (The Womb), Dimas Aditya (Yuni), Pritt Timothy (Qorin), and Tutie Kirana (Ave Maryam).
Directed by Kamila Andini (Before, Now & Then) and Ifa Isfansyah (Quarantine Tales), the series is produced by BASE Entertainment with showrunners Shanty Harmayn and Tanya Yuson. Ratih Kumala and Tanya Yuson served as screenwriters along with Kanya K. Priyanti and Ambaridzki Ramadhantyo.
