The Doomsday Cult of Antares de la Luz (Chile)

This true-crime documentary is about a Chilean man known as Antares de la Luz, the charismatic leader of a doomsday religious sect in Chile, who claimed to be the second coming of Jesus. Under the pretext of the apocalypse that, according to the Mayan calendar, was predicted to occur on 21 December 2012, he manipulated his followers under the guise of salvation. Their descent into a spiral of terror culminated in their commission of a singularly heinous crime. Nearly ten years after they were charged for the crime, former members of the cult share their haunting experiences.

The Doomsday Cult of Antares de la Luz, a Netflix Documentary, premieres globally on Thursday, April 25. (You can set a reminder for it now.)

Face to Face (Egypt)

In this dramedy feature, a husband and wife have a heated quarrel and decide to involve their meddling families in their problems. Except during the clash, the metal door lock breaks and everyone gets locked inside the apartment, escalating the problem into a disaster.

When they awaken, they find themselves in the afterlife. In hell, to be precise, where each of them is punished for their worldly sins. As a search for them is mounted in this world, secrets are revealed, prompting their parents, Syakir (Ariyo Wahab, Bonnie) and Ibu Rika (Astri Nurdin, Bring Me the Moon, Mom), to question if they had done enough for their children.

Siksa Neraka premieres in the US and other territories on Thursday, April 25. (You can set a reminder for it now.)

Military Prosecutor Doberman (South Korea)

This drama follows two military prosecutors: Do Bae-man (Ahn Bo-hyun, My Name, Itaewon Class), who became a prosecutor for success and wealth, and Cha Woo-in (Jo Bo-ah, Destined with You, Tale of the Nine Tailed), who became one for revenge. 13 Bombs (Indonesia)

In this action-crime thriller, a group of terrorists plans to destroy Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital, by planting thirteen bombs across the city. After receiving intelligence about the bomb plot, the Indonesian Counter Terrorism Agency immediately forms a team of secret agents, led by experienced intelligence agent Emil (Ganindra Bimo, Zodiac: What’s Your Sign), to find the mastermind behind the plot and prevent the attacks, lest the city fall into chaos.

13 Bombs premieres in the US and other territories on Tuesday, April 30, on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)

Evil (US)

With Season 4 of this awesome series arriving next month on another streaming service, folks who have and haven’t had the pleasure of (binge) watching it will be able to on Netflix in about two weeks. Evil is a psychological thriller-supernatural mystery series that examines the origins of evil along the dividing line between science and religion. It does this by following a trio who investigate out-of-the-ordinary events — supposed miracles, demonic possessions, hauntings, and the like — to determine if there is a scientific explanation or if something truly supernatural is at work.

Delving into these events are the team of Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers, Manhattan, Divorce), an atheistic forensic psychologist and married mum of four daughters; David Acosta (Mike Colter, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones), a former journalist-turned-Catholic priest-in-training who investigates paranormal occurrences as an assessor for the Church; and Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi, This Way Up, Blue Bloods), an atheist raised in the Islamic faith who provides technical expertise to the team.

Netflix has stated “seasons” but not how many, so at least the first two, hopefully three, seasons of Evil will begin streaming in the US on Tuesday, April 30. (You can set a reminder for them now.)

My Next Guest with David Letterman and John Mulaney (US)

The latest episode of David Letterman’s one-on-one talk show finds him chatting with three-time Primetime Emmy®-winning writer-actor-producer John Mulaney (John Mulaney: Baby J, Big Mouth). The two meet up at Mulaney’s high school in Chicago, where they candidly discuss addiction, fatherhood, and the state of stand-up comedy.

My Next Guest with David Letterman and John Mulaney, a Netflix Series, premieres globally on Tuesday, April 30. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
