Set in the 1950s in post-war Korea, Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born follows Jeongnyeon (Kim Tae-ri, Revenant, Mr. Sunshine), an ordinary girl who ekes out a living by selling clams in Mokpo with her mother, Seo Yong-Rye (Moon So-Ri, Queenmaker). While she may be short on money, Jeongnyeon is full of talent and a big dream, blessed with an incredible singing voice and a desire to beat the odds by becoming rich as a top performer in Korean female classical opera.

When the Maeran Woman’s Gukguek Theater Company stops in Mokpo as part of their national tour, Jeongnyeon attends the performance and becomes enthralled, now totally inspired and committed to turn her dream into a reality. With a bit of creativity, she manages to get in with the theater company and soon becomes one of their trainees in Seoul.

There, Jeongnyeon meets Heo Young-Seo (Shin Ye-Eun, The Glory, Revenge of Others), a fellow trainee who excels in singing, dancing, and acting. It isn’t long before the two become rivals.

Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born, a Hulu Original, premieres in the US with two episodes tomorrow, Wednesday, October 16, exclusively on Hulu. (You can add it to your watchlist now.) The series is streaming in international markets on Disney+.

The cast of the twelve-episode series also includes Ra Mi-Ran (The Good Bad Mother), Jung Eun-chae (Pachinko), Kim Yoon-hye (Vincenzo), Jang Hye-jin (Doctor Slump), and Woo Mi-hwa (A Bloody Lucky Day), amongst others.
