Apple TV+ is making the first season of Severance, its critically-acclaimed, viewer-favorite sci-fi mystery series, available for free for a limited time… but not on Apple TV+.

There are workplace dramas, and then there’s Severance — a sci-fi, mystery, and psychological thriller all rolled into one.

The series follows Mark Scout (Adam Scott, Big Little Lies, Party Down), a worker at biotech company Lumon Industries, who is made team leader after his boss mysteriously disappears. Mark is one of the employees who’s elected to undergo the company’s experimental severance procedure — one that is supposed to support work-life balance (as well as the company’s security) by having their memories divided between those of their life inside Lumon (their “Innie” consciousness) and outside Lumon (their “Outie” consciousness). The severance leaves them thinking and acting like two different people.

But then things in Mark’s Innie life start to leak into his Outie life, and he finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that forces him to confront the true nature of his work… and of himself. And that’s just the beginning…

The complete Season 1 of Severance is streaming for free (with ads) on The Roku Channel through January 19, 2025, giving folks who haven’t seen the show a chance to dive in before the global premiere of Season 2 on Friday, January 17, exclusively on Apple TV+ and Apple TV+ on Prime Channels.
