Prime Video has announced The House of the Spirits, a new Amazon Original Series based on the beloved novel by Isabel Allende.
New York Times best-selling author Isabel Allende, a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, and the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters from the National Book Foundation, published her first novel, The House of the Spirits, more than forty years ago. Considered one of the most important novels of the 20th century, it has sold more than 70 million copies and was adapted for the 1993 film of the same name.
Now the bestseller is being adapted for the new television series, The House of the Spirits, a saga that tells the epic tale of a proud and passionate family, secret loves, and bloody revolution. The Trueba family’s passions, struggles, and secrets span a century of violent social change, culminating in a crisis that hurls the proud, tyrannical patriarch and his beloved granddaughter towards opposite sides of the fence. Although the book is set in an unnamed Latin American country, the eight-episode series is set in Chile.
The all-star international cast will include Alfonso Herrera (Sense 8, Ozark), Dolores Fonzi (Blondi, Somos Belén), Nicole Wallace (My Fault, Raising Voices), Juan Pablo Raba (Narcos, News of a Kidnapping), and Fernanda Castillo (El Señor de los Cielos, Monarca). Additional casting will be announced in due course.
A production of FilmNation (The Holdovers, Promising Young Woman) with the support of Fabula (The Eternal Memory, A Fantastic Woman), the series will be filmed entirely in Spanish. Isabel Allende and Eva Longoria (Land of Women, Desperate Housewives) will serve as executive producers alongside showrunners Francisca Alegría, Fernanda Urrejola (Narcos: Mexico), and Andrés Wood (News of a Kidnapping).
