Netflix has announced the start of production on Wish Your Death (working title), a new young adult horror series from South Korea.

When I first read the description of Wish Your Death (WT), it reminded me of Whatever, Whenever, a thriller anthology series from Brazil — with “be careful what you wish for” as the theme of both.
In the Brazilian series, an individual can have whatever they want, whenever they want it, no matter how much they think they can’t have it. The process is simple: Contact the shadowy, enigmatic entity that will satisfy the request, pay a small fee, and agree to assist in the fulfillment of another client’s wish when requested. Except, while the initial price is low, the actual cost is high.
Wish Your Death (WT) takes a different approach. Rather than focusing on individuals, it follows five high school friends who discover that using a mysterious, wish-granting app has consequences they hadn’t counted on. Here again, the process is simple: Upload a video of your wish and wait for it to come true. But there’s a cost. For this quintet of friends, it comes in the form of a death warning from the app. As they struggle to escape their fates, they uncover chilling truths that connect the app to the sudden death of a classmate.
Starring in the series are Jeon So-young, who plays Se-ah, a promising track athlete at Seorin High who is determined to uncover the secrets of the wish-granting app; Kang Mi-na (Welcome to Samdalri, Café Minamdang, Hotel Del Luna) as Na-ri, a popular girl admired for her idol-like looks, who doesn’t believe the app’s ominous reputation; Baek Sun-ho (Between Him and Her, Drama Stage, Dongjae, the Good or the Bastard) as Geon-woo, Se-ah’s secret boyfriend, who struggles with her growing obsession with the app; Hyun Woo-seok (Time to Be Strong, Dolphin, Cheer Up) as Ha-joon, the analytical brain of the group, who uses his coding skills to unravel the app’s mysteries; and Lee Hyo-je (Hunted, Lost, The Loop) as Hyeong-wook, a mischievous prankster whose life changes after making a wish on the app.
A production of CJ ENM Studios and Kairos Makers, the series is directed by Park Youn-seo (Kingdom Season 2, Moving).
The premiere date for Wish Your Death (WT) hasn’t been announced yet. Stay tuned for updates.
