Netflix has set the premiere date for the long-awaited third season of Alice in Borderland, the global hit survival drama series from Japan. Check out the teaser.

Adapted from the popular “Alice in Borderland” (affiliate link) manga series by Haro Aso (published by Shogakukan), the series follows Arisu (Kento Yamazaki, “Kingdom” franchise) and Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya, Rurouni Kenshin: The Final), who meet in an alternative universe Tokyo where the city is deserted except for them and some others. All of them are forced to compete in sadistic, deadly games whose type and level of difficulty are represented by the suite and number of playing cards (e.g. 3 of clubs).
Season 3 of the television series finds Arisu and Usagi married and leading a happy life following their harrowing experiences in the Borderland, where (in Season 2) they ultimately cleared every card’s game and returned to the real world. They still have memories of the Borderland, but these only surface in dreams and hallucinations.
One day, Usagi suddenly vanishes, abducted and left unconscious. Guided by Ryuji, a mysterious scholar obsessed with the afterlife, she sets out for the Borderland. A devastated Arisu learns from Banda (Hayato Isomura, Extremely Inappropriate!), now a Borderland resident, Usagi’s whereabouts, prompting Arisu to go back to the perilous Borderland to find and save her. Upon his return there, he faces a barrage of fire arrows and electric currents powerful enough to fry victims alive.
There are new players now, and they and Arisu must play the game of the final card — the Joker — in a desperate bid to find a way back to their original world.
Alice in Borderland: Season 3, a Netflix Series, premieres globally on Thursday, September 25, exclusively on Netflix.
Also returning for the third season are Ayaka Miyoshi (Squid Game) and Katsuya Maiguma (Sanctuary). Joining them in the cast are Koji Ohkura (The Hot Spot), Risa Sudou (Midnight Diner), Hiroyuki Ikeuchi (Golden Kamuy: The Hunt of Prisoners in Hokkaido), Tina Tamashiro (The Way of the Househusband), Kotaro Daigo (Re/Member), Hyunri (Tokyo Vice), Sakura Kiryu (My Undead Yokai Girlfriend), Yugo Mikawa (Gannibal), Joey Iwanaga (Rurouni Kenshin: The Final), Akana Ikeda (Tokyo Tower), and Kento Kaku (House of Ninjas).
Developed and produced by Robot for Netflix, the new season (© Haro Aso, Shogakukan, Robot) is directed by Shinsuke Sato (“Kingdom” franchise), written by Yasuko Kuramitsu (Kissing the Ring Finger) and Shinsuke Sato, and produced by Akira Morii and Tomoki Takase.
