This movie looks like fun!

Based on the novel Akazukin, Tabi no Tochu de Shitai to Deau by Aito Aoyagi (published by Futabasha), the upcoming Japanese fantasy-comedy-mystery film Once Upon a Crime offers up a creative take on the world of fairy tales by transforming Little Red Riding Hood from an innocent victim into an intrepid detective.

The story of Once Upon a Crime follows Little Red Riding Hood (Kanna Hashimoto, Re/Member, The Violence Action), who meets Cinderella (Yûko Araki, Roppongi Class, Code Blue) while on her journey through the woods. Thanks to a witch, their clothes are magically changed into fancy gowns and the ladies head off to the ball in a pumpkin carriage. Except while en route, they run over a man — and the two decide to hide the dead body.

At the ball, Cinderella and the prince (Takanori Iwata, Promise Cinderella, Sherlock) fall in love, but all is not happily ever after: The ball comes to a dead halt after the man’s corpse is discovered. With Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella finding themselves in quite a pretty pickle, and the real culprit in their midst, Red decides to throw caution to the wind and take on solving the case herself.

Once Upon a Crime, a Netflix Film, premieres globally on Thursday, September 14, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
