Peacock announced today the premiere date for Season 2 of the comedic thriller series Based on a True Story.
The true-crime genre has been around for centuries, gaining more traction with audiences during the 20th century before exploding in popularity during the 21st century, with an ever-increasing number of TV series, podcasts, books, and dedicated streaming channels for folks to indulge in this passion.
The dark comedy thriller Based on a True Story riffs on this. The half-hour series follows real estate agent and true-crime aficionado Ava Bartlett (Kaley Cuoco, The Big Bang Theory, The Flight Attendant) and her husband, tennis coach Nathan (Chris Messina, The Mindy Project, Damages), who start a true-crime podcast with plumber-cum-serial killer Matt Pierce (Tom Bateman, Behind Her Eyes, Da Vinci’s Demons).
Following on from the events and cliffhanger in Season 1, the new season finds new parents Ava and Nathan three months into parenthood. Focused on taking care of her family, Ava is determined to resist her true-crime obsession and go back to real estate work while Nathan trains private tennis clients. However, a series of new murders pulls her back in.
Is Matt behind the slayings? Is Tory (Liana Liberato, Criminal Minds), Ava’s younger sister, now entangled in a relationship with Matt, in danger?
For a while, life is good. Ava’s TikTok habit and her new friend, Drew, provide a welcome distraction, and Nathan’s all in on reigniting his tennis career as well as his friendship with Matt — until danger comes knocking, literally.
Based on a True Story: Season 2, a Peacock Original, premieres in the US as an eight-episode binge on Thursday, November 21, exclusively on Peacock, where Season 1 is currently available for streaming.
Joining the cast in Season 2 is Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine).
