Netflix announced today that filming on My Sad Dead, a new horror miniseries from Argentina and Chile, will begin at the end of June.

My Sad Dead is a four-episode horror miniseries based on the story My Sad Dead by award-winning Argentine author Mariana Enriquez (#ad), as well as passages and characters from others of her works, including Julie, A Sunny Place for Shady People, and Back When We Talked to the Dead. It will be directed by Pablo Larraín (Maria, El Conde, Midnight Family).
In the miniseries, Ema, a 60-year-old doctor, can see and hear the dead. She calls them “presences” and has lived her entire life avoiding letting this gift connect her with the suffering of others. But when her niece, Julie — a disturbed young woman who can also communicate with the dead, but in a much more intense and sexual manner — arrives at her house, Ema is forced to get involved.
What begins as a family reunion turns into a disturbing chain of events that alters the balance between the worlds of the living and the dead, infecting an entire neighborhood with voices from beyond the grave. As the borders between life, death, and desire blur, Ema will have to confront her past, her daughter, and the ghosts she never let go.
My Sad Dead stars Mercedes Morán (Elena Knows, The Kingdom), Dolores Fonzi (Puerta 7, The Moneychanger), and Alejandra Flechner (Argentina, 1985, Transmitzvah). The cast also includes Carlos Portaluppi (Argentina, 1985, Diary of a Gigolo), Germán de Silva (Caught, The Two Popes), Luz Jiménez (Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths, The Exiles), and newcomer Carolina Sánchez Álvarez.
Adapting the stories for the screen are Mariana Enriquez (The Virgin of the Quarry Lake), Guillermo Calderón (Caravan of Death), Anastasia Ayazi (Claudia), and Pablo Larraín.
A production of Fabula, the series is produced by Juan de Dios, Pablo Larraín, and Ángela Poblete, and executive produced by Álvaro Cabello and Cristián Donoso. Filming will begin at the end of June in Buenos Aires, Argentina (exteriors and locations), and Santiago, Chile (interiors).
The premiere date for My Sad Dead hasn’t been set yet. Stay tuned for updates.
